Diane received Dharma Transmission in the White Plum Lineage from Charlotte Joko Beck in 1995. She is a member of the Soto Zen Buddhist Association, the American Zen Teachers Association and is a founding member of the Ordinary Mind Zen School.

Diane began the Bay Zen Center in 1985 and was installed as Teacher and Abbess soon after her Transmision. A mother of three and grandmother of five, she encourages her students to meet their daily life in the spirit of honest inquiry and awareness. She sees the Bay Zen Center as a lay practice community that offers support and encouragement for people with varied backgrounds, experiences, and responsibilities.

Diane works with students locally and from a distance. She travels to Europe to lead retreats and is available for her distance students to speak with by phone about their practice. She is author of Waking Up to What You Do: A Zen Practice for Meeting Every Situation with Intelligence and Compassion (Shambhala) The book approaches the Zen precepts clearly and simply illustrating how anyone can develop open, honest questioning, and take clear responsibility for their actions.
